Our Graduates Get Good Jobs

We believe that all the baptized are called to ministry, whether in the Church or the world, and our degrees--which are Ignatian, practical, and transformative--play a crucial role in preparing you for this.

Our Graduates

Because of their studies with us, recent graduates hold positions in parishes (like Monica who studied in our Extension format), teach in high schools (like Clarisa who studied online), or see their work in the world and volunteer opportunities as ministry (Grant, who studied on campus and online, did not get his NASA position as a result of our degree, but his studies were a key resource in developing social justice ministries in his parish).  Other graduates around the world are leaders in parishes, dioceses, education (at all levels), health, business, government, the arts, and non-profits.

Our Degrees

Our degrees create learning communities among our students, include formation in Ignatian spirituality, and teach a model of theological reflection that together help you develop professional competence and practical ministry skills.

We offer the following affordable programs on campus here in New Orleans, online, and in your location:

Master of Religious Education (M.R.E.)

Master of Pastoral Studies (M.P.S.)

We also offer these at the certificate level. Our focus areas include religion and ecology, digital culture and ministry, spirituality, and more.

To better serve Church and world, the Jesuits and Loyola University New Orleans are committed to making ministry education for the laity affordable and accessible. Our graduate tuition of $409/credit + fees through the 2017-2018 school year reflects this commitment. We also offer courses at the certificate level.

Why online?

Our online degrees are rich, convenient and flexible. You will study with students from around the world. You need never come to campus, or you may combine online with on-campus credits to complete your degree. Most of your coursework is asynchronous, which means that you do not attend a regularly scheduled class but instead do your work on your own schedule: day, evening, or night.

Why New Orleans?

The Loyola Institute for Ministry (LIM) has been a leader in distance theological education since 1980. LIM combines a firm foundation in the Catholic/Christian tradition with grounding in Ignatian spirituality with attention to the practical implications of its programs for individuals, the Church, and the world.

Why now?

The Loyola Institute for Ministry has offered degrees for over forty years, distance learning programs for more than thirty-five years, and online classes for the last fifteen. We have the technological, pedagogical, and theological expertise to deliver degrees that are educationally excellent and personally transformative.
