On-Campus Study

Today, a new generation is working hard to assume the challenge of pastoral ministry and church leadership in order to serve the People of God more effectively. Others labor to make a difference in a wide variety of secular and civic contexts as "ministers in the marketplace." Still others are pursuing ongoing education as religious women and men, deacons and priests. The Loyola Institute for Ministry (LIM) meets the intellectual, spiritual, pastoral, and human formation needs of all these different ministers in the church and world. What better place to pursue your studies than in the religiously, culturally, and historically rich setting of New Orleans!

LIM programs are practical and affordable. Taking seriously your wisdom and experience as adult learners, they provide you with a firm theological foundation and ask you to pursue the So what?” question. So, what does this mean for your life, for your faith, for the world, for the church? In conversation with our faculty and your classmates, LIM’s courses engage you in a dynamic rhythm of action and theological reflection on your specific ministries. As a student, you gain:

  • a deepened faith and spirituality,

  • an informed and contemporary theological vision,

  • professional ministry competence, and

  • practical ministerial skills

In addition, you benefit from the graces of the Spiritual Exercises of Jesuit founder St. Ignatius Loyola, which are woven through select courses. You also benefit from the flexibility of combining on-campus with online courses, combining courses offered during the academic year with those offered in the summer, of studying full or part time, and of pursuing dual degrees.

You may participate in the LIM on-campus classes in the fall and spring semesters; they are primarily held in the evening, pending enrollment. A special intensive summer session is offered online, so students have the option of taking courses year-round or during semesters that best fit their needs. On-campus students may also enroll in our online courses. You may begin your study in any semester. Most fall and spring courses meet one night a week in the evening.

Full-time LIM students should allow a minimum of four semesters and part-time students should allow a minimum of two full years to complete a degree or certificate program of study.

Welcome to the Loyola Institute for Ministry in New Orleans! We hope you consider joining the thousands of graduates around the country and around the world in this transformative educational opportunity.
