Alumna Sr. Erin McDonald, CSJ, MPS, is excited about the November 2022 launch of her podcast Beyond the Habit, which she co-hosts with fellow Sister of St Joseph Colleen Gibson, SSJ. Beyond the Habit invites listeners to move beyond everyday assumptions of what it means to be Catholic, find common ground, and create unity by talking with special guests about real life issues. Sister Erin studied at LIM through a grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation titled Communicating Charism.
Sr. Erin currently serves as University Minister for Service and Social Justice at the University of Detroit Mercy. Prior to this she served as a case manager at Freedom House in Detroit where she worked with asylum seekers from all over the world, helping them settle and assimilate in the U.S.
The Beyond the Habit format is a back-and-forth exchange between the hosts and a wide variety of guests who have insights into important topics including those related to racial justice, immigration, environmental justice, and LGBTQ+ inclusion. The inaugural two podcasts feature an interview with anti-death penalty activist Sr. Helen Prejean. In the third, Mary Novak, Executive Director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice, shares her experiences. Listen now »
