On Saturday, June 6, sisters from across the Houston area gathered for a day of prayer, reflection, and conversation centered on the theme of accompaniment. The day was led by Claire Gallagher, Associate Project Director of the Flourishing Sisterhood project, in collaboration with Sr. Francesca Kearns, CCVI, former Vicar of Religious Life, and Sr. Maria Goretti, OP, who is transitioning into the role of vicar as Sr. Francesca begins her retirement. The gathering invited sisters to reflect on how Jesus accompanies others in the Gospels, walking with them, listening to their stories, and revealing God’s presence along the way. Through prayer, small group discussion, and shared reflection, participants explored accompaniment as a whole-person practice: spiritual, relational, and practical. The day fostered meaningful encounter, deep listening, and mutual support, and included a listening session to help inform the future of supporting sisters in the Gulf Coast area.
As the day concluded, participants left with a renewed appreciation for the ministry of accompaniment and the importance of creating spaces for authentic encounter. The gathering reflected the mission of the Flourishing Sisterhood project to support women religious through listening, relationship-building, and shared discernment, while strengthening connections among sisters serving throughout the Gulf Coast region.
