Skya Abbate, DBe (Loyola, Chicago 2020), DOM (1984), earned her Master's and Post-Master's in Pastoral Studies at the Loyola Institute for Ministry. The Linacre Quarterly, the official journal of the Catholic Medical Association, recently published her article, "Reimagining the Discipleship of Marriage Through the Lens of Mark: A Theological Reflection for Bioethical Decision-Making on Contraception in Catholic Healthcare and Marital Life." Skya told emeriti professor Barbara Fleischer that the article had its genesis in a paper written for her first class at LIM, which Dr. Fleischer taught.

Skya is an archdiocese-approved presenter (Santa Fe, NM 2014-present), who continues to give annual retreats to parish ministries and has developed national online continuing education courses in medical ethics in principlism, telemedicine, research, and healthcare disparities. She is a licensed doctor of Oriental medicine in the state of New Mexico and has served as an educational expert and commissioner for the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She attained Italian Language Certification for Italian Citizenship from the Università per Stranieri di Perugia, Perugia, Italy (2022) and continues studying advanced Italian directly with the Europass Italian Language School, Firenze, Italy.
