Dr. Tracey Lamont’s article “Ministry with Young Adults: Toward a New Ecclesiological Imagination” has been published in a special issue of Religions, an open access journal. The special issue focuses on "Catholic Youth & Young Adult Ministry." To read the article or download it, GO»
The article acknowledges the important goals of the “New Evangelization”—catechesis and evangelization—while also recognizing that well-intentioned “New Evangelization” efforts aimed at young adults have largely been unsuccessful in terms of decreasing disaffiliation and encouraging their experiences of God. By tracing the evolving understanding of “New Evangelization” by Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis and by theologians, the article proposes a new “ecclesiological imagination” grounded in an experiential understanding of the Gospel and what ministry to young adults might look like as a result.
