At Easter, Catholics affirm our hope of resurrection with Christ and pray for those who died in the past year. This Easter season, we at the Loyola Institute for Ministry pray for and remember two of our colleagues: Bernard Lee and Robert Ludwig.

We remember our beloved colleague and friend, Rev. Bernard Lee, S.M., Th.D., who died in San Antonio on January 26 2020 after an extended illness. Bernard joined the Loyola Institute for Ministry faculty in 1989 and became director of the Institute from 1990 to 1993. During his tenure at LIM, Bernard’s seminal work on the significance of Small Christian Communities for a flourishing contemporary Church gave the Loyola Institute for Ministry an international reputation as a center for the study and development of SCC’s. His passion for practical theology as a new way of “doing” theology influenced not only the Loyola Institute for Ministry but also the 42 graduate theology programs who comprised the Association of Graduate Programs in Ministry. His contributions to LIM, to SCCs, to the Church, and to the world are too numerous to express in a short space, but we share with you here the eulogy offered by his friend, co-author, colleague, and faculty emeritus of the Loyola Institute for Ministry, Dr. Michael Cowan. |
Bob's impact on LIM is immeasurable. He wrote the course books for Christian Origins and Grace, Christ, and Spirit, as well as appeared on many of the Institute's course videos. From 1982 through the summer of 1989, he served as the director of the Institute. During his tenure at LIM, he touched the lives of hundreds of students, and his energy and vision shaped the trajectory of the Institute and its work in the world. We share with you here "A Tribute to the Witness and Legacy of Dr. Robert A. (Bob) Ludwig to LIM in His Service as Director from 1983-1989" by Kathleen O’Gorman, Ed.D., Bob's colleague, friend, and faculty emerita of the Loyola Institute for Ministry. |
