Joe and Kelly George Professorship in Theology and Ministry, Bilingual

Loyola Institute for Ministry (LIM) of Loyola University New Orleans invites applications for the Joe and Kelly George Professorship in Theology and Ministry at the assistant professor level. The successful candidate will be Spanish-English bilingual with expertise in Hispanic Ministry. This is not currently a tenure-track position but will be funded for at least three years and will ideally be converted to tenure track in the future. Application review begins at the end of January 2023 and will continue until the position is filled.
 

Qualifications

  • D.Min., Ph.D., or Th.D. in pastoral studies, Catholic theology or related field

  • English-Spanish bilingual 

  • Strong preference for expertise in spirituality, spiritual direction, or related field

  • Thorough familiarity with contemporary Roman Catholicism

  • Familiarity with and commitment to practical theology and contextual theological reflection

  • Experience in ministry and/or ministry education

  • Experience in distance education
     

Responsibilities

The faculty member will work on LIM’s Spanish-language courses and work to grow its programming in Spanish and Hispanic Ministry. The successful candidate will also teach graduate and undergraduate courses in an area of expertise and in related theological and ministry areas and do so on campus and in our distant education programs.  

The Loyola Institute for Ministry (LIM) is located at Loyola University New Orleans and is committed to the mission and goals of a Catholic, Jesuit university. Originally part of the Diocese of San Cristóbal de la Habana, Cuba in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, New Orleans has a long history and rich tradition of Spanish-speaking Catholicism.LIM is part of the College of Nursing and Health, which is committed to health in mind, body, and spirit. LIM offers master’s degrees in pastoral studies and religious education—emphasizing practical theology’s method of contextual theological reflection—as well as certificates and a range of continuing education courses and workshops.  The Institute’s distance education programs are offered online and in partnership with dioceses around the United States and around the world. 

LIM is one of the institutions affiliated with the University of Notre Dame and Boston College’s recently awarded Lilly grant. This project, Haciendo Caminos, is specifically designed to grow the next generation of Hispanic Catholic pastoral leaders in the United States. LIM is enthusiastic about how this project will help support this faculty position in growing bilingual programs.
