Summer Institute for Catholic Educational Leadership

AI in Catholic Education and Formation: Understanding, Ethics, and Theological Reflection

June 2, 2026

We warmly invite you to join us for a Summer Institute designed to equip, inspire, and strengthen leaders in Catholic education, as well as those serving in other ministries. This year’s gathering will center on timely and relevant topics, offering meaningful opportunities for professional growth, spiritual renewal, and collaborative learning with others who share a commitment to compassionate Catholic service.

Artificial intelligence is reshaping how we teach, lead, and serve—but what exactly is it, and what does it mean for Catholic education and ministry formation? Join us on the morning of June 2 for a session with Dr. Andrea Martin (Loyola University New Orleans).

Dr. Martin will offer a clear and accessible introduction to artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on the capabilities of generative AI. Participants will develop a grounded understanding of what AI is, what it is not, and where it is headed, with an emphasis on how these technologies are already shaping education and ministry.

The session will explore key ethical considerations for Catholic communities, including mental health, bias, and environmental impact, while also highlighting practical, time-saving ways AI can support educators and ministers and enhance personalized learning for students.

Dr. Martin will also introduce foundational ideas in AI governance and share practical, actionable steps schools and parishes can take to begin engaging with AI in a thoughtful and responsible way.

The session will conclude with a theological reflection and concrete takeaways participants can bring back to their schools.

We hope you will mark your calendar and join us for this engaging and formative experience as we continue to lead with faith, vision, and hope in a rapidly changing world.
