From Virtual Classroom to Vatican: Loyola Professor Recognized for Innovative Teaching

Loyola University New Orleans has awarded the 2025 Kelly Frailing Excellence in Online Teaching Award to Dr. Emily Jendzejec for her groundbreaking course "Synodality." The annual award recognizes faculty who demonstrate exceptional achievement in online teaching, course development, pedagogical innovation, and student engagement. Dr. Jendzejec's course aligned with the historic General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome in October 2024, featuring an immersive week-long experience where Loyola Institute for Ministry students joined 150 delegates from 15 U.S. Catholic universities. This select group participated in the global Synod on Communion, Participation, and Mission and engaged in an exclusive dialogue with Synod leadership. President's Convocation attendees celebrated Dr. Jendzejec's outstanding accomplishment during the award presentation on January 28.
