Brian Merry, MRE, brings a valuable practitioner’s perspective to the article “The Need to Integrate Spirituality into Sleep Medicine as a Dimension of Whole-Person, Person-Centered Care,” published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (August 2026). Brian and his co-authors call for spirituality to be recognized as an important dimension of holistic health and well-being and emphasize that spiritual well-being, religious coping, and other concerns can influence sleep and overall health. Given this, they advocate for greater attention to these dimensions within patient-centered care. This perspective aligns closely with Brian’s professional work as a Spiritual Fitness Program Manager for the U.S. Air Force in which he applies principles of spiritual well-being in support of military personnel and their families. His contribution to the article reflects their belief in the value of integrating spiritual care into approaches that address the whole person rather than focusing only on biological concerns. Brian’s background as a Master of Religious Education graduate of Loyola University New Orleans further informs their commitment to the role of spirituality in human flourishing and comprehensive well-being.
