Answering the Call: Jeremiah Smith’s Journey from Student to Spiritual Leader

Jeremiah Smith’s journey through the Bachelor of Ministry and Theology program at the Loyola Institute for Ministry (LIM) was more than academic—it was transformational. Through his studies, Jeremiah discerned a profound call to serve in the Episcopal Church, a path that has since led him to pursue ordination as a priest.

Since earning his degree, Jeremiah has been named an Aspirant to the Priesthood in the Episcopal Church and now serves as a ministry intern at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Metairie, Louisiana. A significant milestone in his ministerial journey came on September 7, when he courageously stepped into the pulpit to deliver his very first sermon—a powerful moment that marked both personal and spiritual growth.

Jeremiah’s path hasn’t been without its challenges. Public speaking, once a source of discomfort, became a turning point in his formation thanks to the support and encouragement of LIM Director Dr. Tracey Lamont. Recognizing Jeremiah’s potential, Dr. Lamont invited him to speak at the 2023 LIM commencement liturgy—an opportunity that helped him gain confidence in his voice and his calling.

Today, Jeremiah stands as a testament to the transformative power of faith, education, and community. His story inspires others to listen for their own callings and to trust that with guidance and courage, they too can step into roles of meaningful service.
