On Nov. 9, 2022, LIM graduate Stacy Wells, M.R.E., (second from left) was among the faculty, administrators, and students who welcomed Fr. Greg Boyle to the campus of Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, California, where she is Dean of Mission and Ministry. Fr. Boyle came to speak to the students about Homeboy Industries, the ministry he founded in 1988 to help former gang members in East Los Angeles to improve their lives. He was accompanied by two members of the organization who also spoke to the teens. The campus comunity shared a liturgy celebrated by Fr. Boyle.
Each year, Stacy takes her students to Dolores Mission Church in Los Angeles. There, students learn about Fr. Boyle’s ministry and the church, which is the most impressively pastoral parish she has ever encountered. Through the powerful talks given by Fr. Boyle and two homies, students and faculty learned about this impactful social justice ministry which has served as a blueprint for similar organizations in the U.S., Central America, and Europe that are part of the Global Homeboy Network.
Stacy Wells also serves as an adjunct faculty member at the Loyola Institute for Ministry, teaching the undergraduate courses RELM 320, Christ and the Christian Tradition and RELM 370, RELM 334, Ethics for Ministers.
