Achievements

While attending the American Nephrology Nurses Association's annual meeting during spring break, nursing student JoAnn Otts had the opportunity to meet the keynote speaker, none other than nursing theorist Dr. Patricia Benner, best known for her "From Novice to Expert" theory.

Dr Patricia Benner introduced the "From Novice to Expert" concept that expert nurses develop skills and understanding of patient care over time through a sound educational base as well as a multitude of experiences.

The conference is funded by Our Sunday Visitor Institute and sponsored by the Pontifical Council for Social Communication, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Communication Office, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and Santa Clara University.  Theologians attending the conference will explore the theme of Community, Presence, and Authority in a Digital World.

Nursing Professor Kim Brannagan recently attended the 24th  Annual Art & Science of Health Promotion Conference (March 26-28,2014) where the industry’s leaders gathered to discuss the most successful health promotion programs in the workplace, clinical, educational and community settings.

 

Dr. Lisa Linville, Assistant Professor, will present “BioEthics at the Very End of Life, Days to Hours” at the Sigma Theta Tau International, Epsilon Nu Chapter, Refocus, Revitalize, & Reenergize Nursing Practice through Scholarship - Dr. Linda Corson Jones Scholarship Day on April 25, 2014.  Dr. Linville has also been invited to participate in the panel discussion following her presentation.

This workshop will gather junior faculty for a week in two successive summers and a weekend winter retreat in a warm location. 

Lisa Russo Authement, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, a Doctorate of Nursing Practice student in the Loyola University School of Nursing, has been awarded the American Association of Nurse Practitioner’s $2,500 Take Care Health Promotion, supported by a generous donation from Walgreen’s Take Care Health Systems.  Ms.

James Foley, a 2013 graduate of the HCSM MSN Program recently joined LSU Health Science Center School of Nursing as an instructor in their BSN program.  James has worked in Long-term acute care, home health, and most recently at Ochsner Main Campus in the Cardio-Thoracic Step down unit. He is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society and holds the position of Vice President for XI Psi chapter. As an active member of the community,  he is a member of the Knights of Columbus Council in Terrytown and served as past Grand Knight for 2 years consecutively.

With a focus on Twitter and Pope Francis's Twitter feed (@Pontifex), the article considers the possibilities for creating community through electronic media and examines the challenges of such an open digital forum in a Christian context. Read it»

Dr. Laurie Anne Ferguson, Associate Professor of Nursing, published a manuscript on autoimmune hepatitis in the first issue of the 2014 Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.  She is also an integral part of a five-year, innovative colorectal cancer study funded by a $1.3 million grant from the American Cancer Society. She is part of a team studying how people understand basic health information and services, and how that understanding—or lack of understanding—relates to patients getting screened for colorectal cancer.

In November 2013, Diane Scott was asked to speak at the United Nation's Division for Public Administration and Development Management United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs on the measurement, application and assessment of "Happiness at Work" .  She is currently a partner at the iOpener Institute of People and Performance, based in Oxford, UK where her company researches and applies the science of happiness at work with organizations throughout the world.  Her Loyola courses include Nursing Financial Resources I & II.  Workplace Happiness and Healthcare Finance- may se
