On Nov. 9, 2022, LIM graduate Stacy Wells, M.R.E., (second from left) was among the faculty, administrators, and students who welcomed Fr. Greg Boyle to the campus of Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, California, where she is Dean of Mission and Ministry. Fr. Boyle came to speak to the students about Homeboy Industries, the ministry he founded in 1988 to help former gang members in East Los Angeles to improve their lives. He was accompanied by two members of the organization who also spoke to the teens. The campus comunity shared a liturgy celebrated by Fr. Boyle.
On October 26, 2022, Professor Emerita Kathleen O’Gorman, Ed.D., delivered a moving presentation for Rayne Methodist Church in New Orleans entitled “Remembering We Are Not Alone.” She began in honor of her mentor, Thomas Berry, C.P., by asking the group and responding to the question that guides her in all things: What time is it? Where are we in this time and place, and what are we called to respond to or reflect more deeply on? In her presnetation, Dr. O'Gorman brought forth the wisdom of our ancestors who were guided, sustained, and who lived by the sun.
Emily Jendzejec, Ph.D., celebrates the publication of her essay "Priesthood as Discipleship for Mission" in the recent volume A Possible Priesthood: Horizons of Hope (Orbis Books 2022). This collection of essays, rooted in church tradition and responsive to Vatican II, includes its authors' hopes for the future of the priesthood.
Dr. Tracey Lamont was recently interviewed by Christy Cabaniss and Sarah Jarzembowski of the Catholic Leadership Network for a podcast about missionary discipleship. In the podcast, Dr. Lamont defines missionary discipleship and shares her ideas of how to build trust among community members and leaders in order to encourage missionary discipleship. Graduates of LIM's Spanish-language program received the Certificado de Educación Continua en Teología y Ministerio. The twelve students, pictured above with their facilitator Danna Johnson, received LIM's Kairos Award at the May 2022 College of Nursing and Health Awards ceremony. The Kairos Award is given collectively to a LIM or LIM Extension classes that has demonstrated LIM's core values of academic excellence and collaboration for ministry.
Ursuline Academy student Natalie Garner attended the FaithActs Summer Youth Theology Institute in June of 2022. Her experiences there prompted her to write an article which was published in the Clarion Herald, the newspaper of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. In it, she explains how the presentations she attended and activities she participated in allowed her to connect her Catholic faith's teaching on creation to her spirituality and her actions in the world. Loyola University New Orleans’ Institute for Ministry (LIM) has been awarded a fourth grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation’s Catholic Sisters Initiative. This new three-year grant, totaling $545,000, provides transformative support for the leadership and well-being of Catholic sisters in the greater New Orleans community and beyond.
In July 2022, the Journal of Moral Theology (JMT) published a symposium entitled "Teaching Catholic Social Thought" which features articles by three Catholic sisters who studied with LIM thanks to grants from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, as well as an article by the grant manager, Sarah DeMarais.
Amanda Livermore, MPS, has recently been selected as the Feasibility Study Director of a Cristo Rey High School proposed for the Orlando area. Of this new venture, Amanda has said, "My LIMEX education will serve me well as I continue to build the Kingdom of God in central Florida. The Cristo Rey model will serve our community well, and I am excited to see how the Lord works through it all."
In the spring of 2022, Loyola alumnus Ansel Augustine (BA, MPS) has seen the fruits of his many labors recognized by others. These labors include serving as the Director of the Offic of Black Catholic Ministres for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, participating in the work of the Knights of Columbus and Knights of Peter Claver, teaching at Loyola and Xavier Universities in New Orleans, and engaging in youth and young adult ministry. Ansel channels his experiences into creative projects as well.
