Dr. Cherie Burke joined the Loyola University New Orleans as Director of the School of Nursing in 2021. She is a registered nurse and a clinically practicing certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). She is a PhD (c) at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from La Salle University in Philadelphia. Her MSN is from DeSales University in Center Valley, PA and her CRNA education was obtained at the Frank J. Tornetta School of Anesthesia. Dr. Burke received her BSN from Wilkes University.

Dr. Burke comes to Loyola New Orleans with prior teaching and leadership experience as the Program Director of the Rush University Nurse Anesthesia Program.  She taught across degrees (BSN, MSN, and DNP) at St. Joseph’s College of Maine and Rutgers University’s Nurse Anesthesia Program.  Dr. Burke completed a post-doctoral patient safety fellowship with the Veterans Administration at the Philadelphia VA and the University of Pennsylvania Simulation Center.

Dr. Burke has been an active member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and has served on both the national and state level. Her research interests include patient safety and infection prevention.
