Dr. Mary A. Hermann has worked as a counselor educator since 2001. For 16 years, she was a professor in the Counselor Education Program at Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to that, she was a professor in the Counselor Education and Women’s Studies programs at Mississippi State University. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of New Orleans and her law degree at Loyola University. She is a licensed attorney, a licensed professional counselor, a national certified counselor, a certified school counselor, and a Gallup trained strengths-based coach.

 

Dr. Hermann’s research has focused on women’s experiences and on legal and ethical issues in counseling. She has authored over 75 publications and 180 presentations and is the founding director of the Women’s Lifespan Development Research Lab. Dr. Hermann is past president of the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES). She co-chaired the American Counseling Association (ACA) Gender Equity Task Force, the ACA Diversity in Leadership Task Force, and the SACES Women’s Interest Network. She also served on the 2014 ACA Ethics Revision Task Force. She has earned numerous awards for her teaching, scholarship, and leadership, including being named a Fellow in the American Counseling Association.
