BSN Degree Program
Loyola's BSN program was the first in the state of Louisiana designed exclusively to meet the needs of registered nurses. The development of the BSN program began in 1979. The first students to complete the BSN program graduated in the Fall of 1982. In the Spring of 1983 the program was fully accredited by the National League for Nursing. During the 1980's the BSN program continued to grow. To meet the increasing demands of RN students for access to BSN education, in 1990 the B.S. N. program was opened in Baton Rouge and at a number of offcampus learning sites throughout southern Louisiana. In 1999 the RN-to-MSN option was added for students who elect to receive both the BSN degree and the MSN degree from Loyola University.
MSN Degree Program
In Spring of 1996 Loyola's Board of Trustees approved a proposal for the Master of Science in Nursing degree program for Nurse Practitioners. The first class of MSN students was accepted in the Spring of 1997 and graduated in May of 2000. In the Spring of 2001, the Health Care Systems Management (H.C.S.M.) option was approved. The first H.C.S.M. class was admitted in the Summer of 2001 and graduated in the Spring of 2003. In the Summer of 2004, the H.C.S.M. program became the first totally online master’s degree program at Loyola University.
