Dr. Jamie Pelaez is a certified nurse-midwife and women’s health nurse practitioner. She has worked in obstetrics since 2016 adding full-scope gynecologic care to her practice in 2019. She began in academia as a clinical instructor in 2017 and transitioned to full-time professor in 2023. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Additionally, she is completing her post-master’s certificate in Nursing Education at the University of Northern Colorado.
In her clinical practice, Dr. Pelaez has served women and communities in hospital, birth center and home birth settings. She provides comprehensive care to women across the lifespan, specializing in pregnancy nutrition and contraceptive counseling. She has served as a preceptor for nurse-midwifery and women’s health nurse practitioner students as well as emergency room residents in their obstetrics rotation. She continues her passion for women’s health by working per-diem at a birth center in rural Appalachia.
She joined Loyola University New Orleans in 2022 and teaches in the BSN, MSN and DNP programs. As the Nurse-Midwifery Program Director, she aims to improve maternal health outcomes and address healthcare disparities by growing and diversifying the midwifery workforce in the Gulf Shores area.
