Dr Cynthia Collins, Associate Professor of Nursing in the College of Social Sciences presented her research at the annual conference of the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA) that met in Chicago in September 2013. Her work, “The evolving role of sons in the health promotion of their elderly parents”, represents a secondary analysis of the data from her larger qualitative study on the well-being of older persons and social support as an influence on health-promoting behaviors (Collins, 2002). Dr Collins’ study was chosen for discussion at an innovative conference breakout session as an example of creative work that advanced practice nurses are doing to further the care of older adults. A poster synopsis of the project was also shared at the research symposium reception during the conference.
