Compassion Fatigue and Burnout Among Healthcare Professionals Workshop Registration
Compassion fatigue (CF) has become far more prevalent in the recent pandemic, creating mass exits from the caring professions. Compassion fatigue, penned as the “cost of caring”, can be the result of physical and emotional exhaustion which leads to a decreased ability to provide compassionate care. Professional burnout, intricately intertwined with CF, is brought on by prolonged or repeated stress over a period of time. Those whose professions involve providing care to others are at great risk for CF and burnout. This interprofessional presentation, including faculty from Counseling, Ministry, and Nursing from Loyola University New Orleans College of Nursing and Health, as well as Loyola Music Therapy faculty, and Medical faculty from Tulane University addresses the concepts of CF and burnout, as well as the causes, and strategies to prevent the phenomenon.
