DNP Programs

Renowned as a leading institution for the advancement and education of health care professionals, Loyola University New Orleans offers two entry options to your Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)—a Post-Baccalaureate Doctor of Nursing Practice (BSN-to-DNP) and a Post-Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (MSN-to-DNP). Rooted in the Jesuit tradition of social justice, care for the whole person, and values-based leadership, these CCNE-accredited programs prepare you to lead teams, organizations, and individuals within the complex health care system.

BSN-TO-DNP

The BSN-to-DNP program allows you to progress from BSN preparation straight to earning your DNP with a Family Nurse Practitioner concentration. It is important to note that progression in this program must be continuous and a master’s-level degree is not awarded for partial completion.

Concentration

Family Nurse Practitioner — In this program, you will be prepared to provide, as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), comprehensive care for individuals across the lifespan in a variety of practice areas and as a member of interdisciplinary teams. Upon graduation, you will be qualified to sit for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Family Nurse Practitioner or the American Nurses Credentialing Center exam for Family Nurse Practitioner.

MSN-TO-DNP

Offered online with its associated flexibility, the online MSN-to-DNP program helps master’s-level nurses earn a terminal practice degree and gain targeted skills in one of two specialized areas based on your professional interests and career aspirations — Nurse Practitioner or Executive Leader. The program prepares you to work in and with interdisciplinary teams, make ethical and informed decisions, as well as translate research evidence to solve intricate health care challenges.

MSN to DNP Concentrations

Nurse Practitioner — To enroll in this concentration, you must already be a certified nurse practitioner and have a master’s in nursing. You will develop advanced skills in both clinical practice as well as health care leadership.

Executive Leader — Strongly centered around leadership, this concentration prepares you to champion the mission of your health care organization. You will further develop advanced practice skills with a systems and population focus. Students with both advanced practice and non-clinical master’s degrees can apply for this concentration.
