Achievements

Loyola University New Orleans has received a $1.25 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to support a project with the Loyola Institute for Ministry (LIM), in partnership with the National Community of Catechetical Leadership (NCCL) entitled “Becoming a Missionary Synodal Parish Community.”

LIM Professor Tom Ryan collaborated with LIM adjunct faculty Deborah Wilhelm and Gilberto Ruiz of Saint Anselm College to co-author GIA Publications' Living the Word: Scripture Reflections and Commentaries for Sundays and Holy Days for Year B, starting on the First Sunday of Advent on December 3, 2023.

Ivy Fitzgerald and Lindy Disman both presented at the Louisiana Counseling Association’s (LCA) conference this year in Baton Rouge. Lindy and Ivy are both inter third year in the master’s program. Lindy placed 3rd in the masters level poster board contest. Congratulations to Lindy and Ivy!

Dr. Christine Ebrahim (Associate Professor) and Dr. Joey Pistorius (Adjunct Professor) from the counseling department, along with other board members of the Louisiana Association for Counselor Educators and Supervisors (LACES), presented on the topic of LPC supervision. Dr. Ebrahim is the past President of LACES and Dr. Pistosius is the President Elect. 

 

Dr. Sarah Stillwell, our newest professor, is being honored with the Solomonson Social Justice Leadership award in November. This award recognizes social justice advocates in the state of Texas and within TxCSJ who exhibit leadership skills. She has demonstrated social justice action which is aimed at making the lives of others and/or communities better. She is engaged in the empowerment of marginalized individuals and/or communities. She has show leadership in community organizing and systems change that promote human rights and social justice action.

In September 2023, LIM Director Tracey Lamont traveled to the Archdiocese of Louisville to give a talk to alumni of the LIM extension program. In her keynote address at the Archdiocese of Louisville’s annual Faith Formation Celebration, she explored the relationship between synodality, listening, and revitalizing faith formation.

The Archdiocese of Louisville celebrated its most recent group of students in the LIM Extension Program who earned their Certificate in Theology and Ministry.

Karen Brady, MRE, recently wrote a guest column, "Breaking Down Barriers," in the Arizona Daily Star. In it, she reflects on Matthew 15: 21-28 in which the Caananite woman asks Jesus to heal her daughter and considers its lessons for us today in terms of our treatment of others.

Ansel Augustine and Kevin FitzpatrickLocal alums Ansel Augustine, MPS, and Kevin Fitzpatrick, MPS, made possible a retreat for ninety-eight incarcerated men at the Rayburn Correctional Center in Angie, Louisiana. This past summer, Ansel, director of the Office of Black Catholic Ministries, facilitated the retreat with Sister Judy Gomila and Kevin.

In august 2023, thousands of youths gathered in Lisbon to celebrate World Youth Day. As part of the event, some AMECEA countries including Kenya, Malawi and Ethiopia were offered the opportunity to hoist the flags of their countries together with the flag of Portugal and the Vatican flag.
